Weight & Pricing Guide
Understanding how weight and pricing work helps you estimate your delivery cost more accurately before arranging an order through Send Air Global.
1. How We Calculate Shipping Weight
International delivery cost is usually based on the greater of:
- Actual Weight: The physical weight measured in kg.
- Volumetric Weight: The weight calculated from box size based on carrier and airline rules.
Final chargeable weight = whichever is higher (Actual Weight vs Volumetric Weight)
2. Volumetric Weight Formula
Airlines and carriers commonly calculate volumetric weight using this formula:
- Dimensions must be in centimeters (cm).
- Round up to the nearest 0.5 kg.
- Oversized boxes may increase volumetric weight significantly.
Example
A box measuring 40 × 30 × 30 cm:
40 × 30 × 30 = 36,000 36,000 ÷ 5000 = 7.2 kg volumetric
If actual weight is 6 kg → billing weight is 7.5 kg (rounded up).
3. Standard Box Recommendations
These sizes can help minimize volumetric weight and reduce cost:
- 12 × 10 × 8 in (small items, supplements, cosmetics)
- 16 × 14 × 14 in (mixed items, electronics + soft items)
- 20 × 20 × 15 in (bulky but lightweight items)
Avoid oversized boxes unless necessary. Larger cartons almost always increase volumetric weight.
4. Minimum, Maximum & Special Cases
4.1 Minimum Weight Charge
Even if your item weighs less than 0.5 kg, the minimum billable weight is 0.5 kg.
4.2 Heavy Shipments
For shipments above 20–30 kg, please contact us for tailored pricing.
4.3 High-Value or Fragile Items
- May need additional protective packaging
- May slightly increase weight or volumetric size
- Insurance may be recommended (optional)
5. Example Weight Calculations
Example 1: Cosmetics & Supplements
Actual weight: 0.9 kg Box size: 30 × 20 × 10 cm Volumetric = 30 × 20 × 10 ÷ 5000 = 1.2 kg
Billing weight = 1.5 kg (rounded up)
Example 2: Laptop
Actual weight: 2.4 kg Box size after adjustment: 40 × 30 × 8 cm Volumetric = 1.92 kg
Billing weight = 2.5 kg (actual is higher)
Example 3: Large Shoes Box
Actual weight: 1.2 kg Box size: 45 × 35 × 20 cm Volumetric = 6.3 kg
Billing weight = 6.5 kg — volumetric is much higher. Tip: removing unnecessary retail boxes can often reduce volumetric weight.
6. Weight Rounding Rules
For accurate and consistent pricing, we follow standard rounding rules:
- 0.01–0.50 kg → round up to 0.5 kg
- 0.51–1.00 kg → round up to 1.0 kg
- 1.01–1.50 kg → round up to 1.5 kg
- 1.51–2.00 kg → round up to 2.0 kg
For larger shipments, rounding may apply per individual package or carton.
7. Pricing Structure
Send Air Global uses a transparent rate model based on chargeable weight (actual or volumetric).
